I would first like to start off with an apology. You may have noticed that I have been a little MIA lately. I’ll admit, though, that I have a good excuse… R and I have been house hunting! With two dogs and plans to *eventually* grow our fambam we figured it was time to take the plunge and buy our first home. Call me naive but I assumed that this process was going to involve A LOT less investigative work. So naturally I decided to put together a list of Things I’ve Learned While House Hunting.
Things I’ve Learned While House Hunting
Find A Realtor That You Can Trust
Although this may seem like a “duh” learning experience but I cannot stress enough how important it is to find a realtor that you can trust. Find someone who cares about you and your finances. You don’t want to be house poor and you need someone who doesn’t want that for you either.
There Is No Universal Definition For Clean
Hire a professional cleaner, even if only once then keep up with the cleanliness. Why is this not common sense? Cleaning supplies are not expensive and you’d be surprised how many “all-purpose” cleaners are on the marker these days #justsayin
A Lot Of People Have Koi Ponds
Like, A LOT.
Sellers Renovate The Oddest Things
OK I get if there is a leak and something needs to be repaired then you might as well renovate to your liking. However, the number of master bedrooms that do not have doors between the bedroom and the master bathroom is INSANE! The labor that it would take an ordinary couple to put a door looks incredibly easy
People Paint Rooms Really Weird Colors
Why would you paint your kitchen teal and your entry way dark red? This is a legitimate question, I’ve seen these color combos IN THE SAME HOUSE! Neutral colors people! Or lets say that you actually like these crazy colors in your house please be a doll and buy some paint supplies to paint your casa in neutral colors.
Pictures Are Liars
Wide angle lenses should NOT be allowed! Read the room sizes before flying down the highway to meet your realtor in 10 minutes but the property is 25 minutes away.
Perspective is everything.
Full Cash Offers Are King And You Will Never Win
This is a tough pill to swallow. If you’re like my husband and I then this learning curve never gets easier. We feel like we did everything “the right way”. We cut back on spending. We saved our money. We perfected our credit scores. We have been patient. We both put all of our faith in Jesus and we know that He will provide us with a perfect house at the perfect time. Sometimes, though, someone with a ton of money is going to come in and put in a full cash offer on a house that you have already fallen in love with and there is nothing that you can do about it. The worst part? You can’t even be mad at the seller who accepts that offer or the buyer who has that much cash. Good for both of them, I would do the same thing if I was either of those people!
Is anything else currently house hunting? What have you have you learned while house hunting?
Good luck out there!
Until next time,
